Clarky72 Posted June 3, 2020 Posted June 3, 2020 I'm building a HSS Strat, swamp ash body, maple/maple neck, vintage tremolo. Any pickup suggestions? I play mainly classic hard rock, I'm more of a Les Paul guy than a shredder. I know its the balance between tone and output, and i'm leaning heavily towards tone. I have looked at the Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates with regular single coils, toyed with the idea of something like a JB with high powered singles. All ideas and suggestions welcomed. Thanks! :) Quote
ezbass Posted June 4, 2020 Posted June 4, 2020 It’s a well known fact that I’m a DiMarzio fanboy. I’ve use SDs in the past but, whilst they’re good and an upgrade from generic, manufacturer fitted, I’ve mostly been underwhelmed, whereas DiMarzios have always given me that stupid, new tone grin. This is probably down to me choosing the wrong SD pickups for my needs, which I can only put down to the so so customer service I’ve received from SD. On the other hand, I’ve had nothing but stellar service from DiMarzio, no query is too small for them it seems, I’ve even had Steve Blucher answer my emails in the past and he’s worked directly with Satch and Vai to name just 2. So, in short, have a look around their website and then drop them a line with your tonal requirements to see if what you’ve picked out matches your actual needs. 1 Quote
EdwardMarlowe Posted February 4, 2021 Posted February 4, 2021 I'm something of a fan of the GFS / Guitar Fetish stuff. Had a few, been pleased with the service. THeir new Kwikplug system is pretty cool - that and the low price would tempt me to try two or three with very quick and easy changing (plug, screw & go). https://www.guitarfetish.com/GFS-Guitar-Pickups_c_7.html Quote
Teletastic Posted March 6, 2021 Posted March 6, 2021 I recently got a set of these on the recommendation of a mate in New Zealand (they’re made there). Made my number 2 Strat into my number 1. Quote
police squad Posted February 20, 2022 Posted February 20, 2022 I have 2 seymours in my HSS strat. Both from 1982, a PAF in the bridge and a single coil in the neck. They are superb for what ever I have used. I have a tele with a bareknuckles bridge pickup based on a '63 IIRC. sounds awesome. seymours in my Slash AFD LP, it's my best sounding LP Quote
