Got a guitar playing friend who will choose picks to buy by bouncing it on counter on its edge and listen for that magic, "thonk" or whatever the sound is that "chosen" picks make. Anyone else do this?

Not me, I’ve just tried a whole bunch over the years. I think any audible tonal quality perceived by bouncing a pick will be negated once held. However, if it works for your friend as a selection process, then it’s good for them. We all have our own ‘things’.

He also has been known to use one from buffalo hoof. Looks like warren Haynes plays like Steve gaines......  Hey am I a poet and not aware of it?
