dewayne Posted Sunday at 11:29 Share Posted Sunday at 11:29 What rhythm guitar players would you consider to be influential?
ezbass Posted Sunday at 14:11 Share Posted Sunday at 14:11 Hmm, influential to me? I'm not sure anyone consciously influenced my rhythm style, it just evolved, unlike my lead playing which was definitely player influenced. However, players whose rhythm playing I think is amazing are: Pete Townshend; Cory Wong; Nile Rodgers; Eddie Van Halen; Andy Summers; The Edge
dewayne Posted yesterday at 02:29 Author Share Posted yesterday at 02:29 Influencial for me would be tom johnson from doobie bros, rhythm guitar player on The Cars stuff (elliott easton?) and george thorogood and since I started in bluegrass banjo around 1982, earl scruggs. But later I definently began noticing EVH, nuno bettencourt, mustaine, dimebag.
Rosie C Posted yesterday at 09:43 Share Posted yesterday at 09:43 (edited) As far as rhythm techqniue, it's probably KT Tunstall for me - although she's a lot more than a rhythm guitarist. I heard "Black Horse & the Cherry Tree" right back when I started to play/sing. Edited yesterday at 15:37 by Rosie C
randythoades Posted yesterday at 10:06 Share Posted yesterday at 10:06 I was never about rhythm alone, but I started to imitate the guys who mixed lead and rhythm together in that slightly muted but melodic way rather than distinct rhythm and lead roles. Usually from small single guitar bands such as Eddie Van Halen, Fast Eddie Clarke, Scotty Moore, James Burton, Brian Setzer, Billy Gibbons, Pete Townsend
Dad3353 Posted yesterday at 10:06 Share Posted yesterday at 10:06 Too many to list, really, but some names that spring to mind (bear in mind that I'm old..!)... Richard Thompson (Fairport Convention and more...) Jorma Kaukonen (Jefferson Airplane, Hot Tuna...) Bobby Weir (Grateful Dead...) Paul Kantner (Jefferson Airplane...) Mickey Baker (see his Jazz Guitar Method books...) John Lennon (Some Merseyside group or other...) Bryan Maclean (Love...)

But then I started working in little two bar melodies on turn arounds. More recently I've been taking lessons and playing tunes. We're adding in chords or pairs of notes on the stronger beats.
