sundayguitar
Hi, I was looking at expanding my guitar collection and found this on sale -I've always had an attraction/repulsion relationship with PRS but this one... I don't know, it has something. What do you think? https://shorturl.at/RL6Gk
ezbass
Goldtops just do it for me, any make. Two of the best sounding guitars I’ve played was a PRS McCarty P90 Goldtop and an early PRS McCarty that I was lucky enough to own (turns out that PRS double cut ergonomics don’t work for me really ). On that basis, a PRS Dave Grissom, Goldtop (effectively a tricked out McCarty) ticks a lot of boxes for me.
Graham50
That’s really nice @sundayguitar. Gold top has a great heritage, Les Pauls look cool in gold.
dewayne Posted Tuesday at 04:46 Share Posted Tuesday at 04:46 Does an Epi Les Paul GoldTop count? Early 90's?

Crusoe Posted Tuesday at 10:03 Share Posted Tuesday at 10:03 I'm another one who doesn't like gold tops. I just don't really like gold in general. I've nothing against PRSs, though. My guitar tutor has a couple and they sound great.

tauzero Posted Tuesday at 12:32 Share Posted Tuesday at 12:32 I used to like gold tops, nowadays I prefer a natural finish to paint of any sort.
randythoades Posted Wednesday at 07:58 Share Posted Wednesday at 07:58 (edited) I do happen to really like Gold tops, but I also have an 'attraction/repulsion relationship with PRS'. I love to look at them, but I have been disappointed with all the ones I have played (granted they have mainly been SE models). Just something about the way they are doesn't work for me, the neck feels too flat and too wide and I can't get many of the tones I like, they just seem too 'polished, smooth and grown up'. I can't seem to get that fat LP tone, a spiky punky tone, nor the direct Fender type tone. But watching other players use them is often jaw droppingly good!!
