sundayguitar Posted November 25, 2024 Posted November 25, 2024 Hi, I was looking at expanding my guitar collection and found this on sale -I've always had an attraction/repulsion relationship with PRS but this one... I don't know, it has something. What do you think? https://shorturl.at/RL6Gk 1 Quote
ezbass Posted November 25, 2024 Posted November 25, 2024 Goldtops just do it for me, any make. Two of the best sounding guitars I’ve played was a PRS McCarty P90 Goldtop and an early PRS McCarty that I was lucky enough to own (turns out that PRS double cut ergonomics don’t work for me really ). On that basis, a PRS Dave Grissom, Goldtop (effectively a tricked out McCarty) ticks a lot of boxes for me. Quote
Graham50 Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 That’s really nice @sundayguitar. Gold top has a great heritage, Les Pauls look cool in gold. Quote
dewayne Posted December 17, 2024 Posted December 17, 2024 Does an Epi Les Paul GoldTop count? Early 90's? Quote

Crusoe Posted December 17, 2024 Posted December 17, 2024 I'm another one who doesn't like gold tops. I just don't really like gold in general. I've nothing against PRSs, though. My guitar tutor has a couple and they sound great. Quote

tauzero Posted December 17, 2024 Posted December 17, 2024 I used to like gold tops, nowadays I prefer a natural finish to paint of any sort. 1 Quote
randythoades Posted December 18, 2024 Posted December 18, 2024 (edited) I do happen to really like Gold tops, but I also have an 'attraction/repulsion relationship with PRS'. I love to look at them, but I have been disappointed with all the ones I have played (granted they have mainly been SE models). Just something about the way they are doesn't work for me, the neck feels too flat and too wide and I can't get many of the tones I like, they just seem too 'polished, smooth and grown up'. I can't seem to get that fat LP tone, a spiky punky tone, nor the direct Fender type tone. But watching other players use them is often jaw droppingly good!!
