Old Codger
Hi All. I wondered if there are any multi-effects units that give seamless changes between patches. I know some units claim to have no 'dead spots' but they still change abruptly from one patch to the other. For example you may have a clean sound with reverb on the current patch and want to change to one with distortion but no reverb. What happens is the reverb chops off dead instead of 'lingering' naturally for a couple of seconds or so. The only unit I've read about is the old 'purple-faced' Digitech 2120 Artist from the 90's I believe. It had controls for "Hold" and "Ramp" which allowed you to blend the two patches gradually together, for a time duration you could set. Is there anything today that can do the same? Cheers, Old Codger.
Dad3353
TC Electronics G-Force is pretty decent when switching from patch to patch. Our Eldest has used one for many years now. See Page 17 of their User Manual for details of how to keep reverb tails, for example... Edited January 17, 2023 by Dad3353
Old Codger
Thanks Dad3353, Yes, that's the sort of thing I'm looking for. Anyone know any others?
ezbass
Sorry, can't help, I haven't used multi FX units since my old Digi RP1.
Old Codger
Hi Ezbass. I've got an RP150, RP200 and an RP 50. They're all great little pedals. Compact, robust and dead easy to use but they have the same issue of sudden cut-off when you change patches. Old Codger.
velvetkevorkian
I believe this is configurable in the Line6 Helix line, see trails here.
Old Codger
Thanks velvetkevorkian. Just had a look and yes the have 'trails' settings for reverb/delay. Flippin 'eck though, they're quite a price aren't they? Cheers, Codger
velvetkevorkian
No, not a budget option, although they hold their value well in the used market. Looking elsewhere, I've not used a Zoom MFX since about 2002 but the Zoom G1 looks to have delay trails configurable per effect (see the delay/reverb sections in the effects list). I'd imagine the other Zoom models have similar. edit: slight correction -- it looks like only some delay models have the trails option. Old Codger
Thanks everyone for the help. The nearest I can get is as you say, 'tails' for Delay and Reverb.
