Crusoe Posted November 3, 2022 Posted November 3, 2022 Which guitarists would you say have the most distinctive sound? Recently, I was playing one of those "Heardle" games, where 1" of a song intro gets played and you have to guess the song and artist. If you can't or get it wrong, 2" gets played and so on. I didn't recognise the song but almost immediately recognised Tony Iommi's guitar playing.
Barking Spiders Posted November 3, 2022 Posted November 3, 2022 Geordie Walker of Killing Joke comes to mind straight away. Not heard anyone else with his style and tone. Nile Rodgers has a very recognisable sound as well that's very hard to copy just right. 1
ezbass Posted November 3, 2022 Posted November 3, 2022 Eric Johnson and Steve Morse have very distinctive tones, as does Ritchie Blackmore (or at least he did, who knows these days?). 1

There have been quite a few songs I've heard on the radio, in recent years and I've thought "that sounds like Nile Rodgers" and been right.

Many, many years ago, Lonnie Donegan released an album with various guitar players guesting on it. You didn’t need to check the sleeve notes to see which track BM was on. 1
