theiceman Posted February 25, 2022 Posted February 25, 2022 Hello, For a project, I decided to make my own humbuckers but I am worried about soldering the two thin wires to connect the coils together. I used 43 gauge wire for the coils and since it is so thin I am worried about soldering it the regular way, as it may be damaged or not get a good connection. The whole pickup is homemade and too delicate to put eyelets in. Does anyone have any advice or tricks for how to get a really good connection? Thanks
T-Bay Posted February 25, 2022 Posted February 25, 2022 Soldering will be fine, just use a small tip and go carefully. If you are having problems you can use a bit of flux but avoid if you can as it needs careful cleaning after or you will get corrosion.
Skinnyman Posted February 26, 2022 Posted February 26, 2022 (edited) This ^ Also… If you can, try and get old-style lead solder rather than the newer stuff. It melts at a lower temperature and gives the components you’re soldering a slightly easier thermal ride. Obviously, don’t eat the stuff or inhale the fumes. Edited February 26, 2022 by Skinnyman
