"Woody" Acoustic Pickup - low output?

Recommended Posts

Posted

My acoustic guitar didn't come with a pickup fitted, so I have a SD Woody which I bung in the hole (stop sniggering at the back) for live performances. It's a lot less faff than trying to stay still in front of a microphone and risking squealing feedback to boot, however it does seem to be a very weak signal compared to, say, the built-in (passive) pickup in my resonator.

Is this a problem anyone else has had? Should I be looking at some kind of outboard preamp, or looking to repair/replace this pickup?

I have a passive Fishman in my acoustic and that also has rather low output. I suspect it is the nature of the beast. I have to turn the gain right up on my acoustic cube amp to get it to register the input l.e.d.

Another passive Fishman pickup owner here (the Neo-D Humbucker). Can't comment on the low output, as I only use it for recording, and adjust to suit.
