  1. Thanks for the replies! I'll stay with the SB-2 for now. Re. the H8 - yes, we are effectively doing live band recordings in our practice space - then transferring the files to a computer for editing in the DAW. The problem with using the combo jack was we had 4 jacks to plug in and only 2 jack sockets
  2. Does anyone have any experience of the Radial SB-1 and SB-2 DI boxes? I have the SB-2 passive box for my bass guitar. But reading the blurb from Radial it's really for bass or keyboard. The SB-1 is the one for acoustic guitar and that's around £90. The background is ... today was my first attempt to do some recording on my new Zoom H8 recorder. Something I overlooked when choosing it is the number of jack inputs. There's only 2 XLR/jack combination sockets, the rest are XLR. Even the 4-channel expansion module only adds more XLRs. I used my SB-2 and it sounded OK. I'm wondering whether the SB-1 is going to be worth the extra expense. I'm plugging in my Goldtone guitar-bodied octave mandolin, for most purposes it's an acoustic guitar.
  3. I struggled with guitar, in part due to shortish fingers, though I know now that better technique would have largely overcome that. Mandolin is small, but after a few weeks I found I can play it very quickly and just about form chord shapes. Octave mandolin is a different beast. I find it a little big to play tunes on - mainly because it's tuned in fifths not fourths. But it's great for playing a rhythm/chordal part.
  4. I do as well, but when I was looking for photos I kept finding ones of the pale wood and wondered how much that was used and I just assumed it was ivory paint under the stage lights?
  5. This year a Joyo "Oxford Sound" pedal. So far I'm very pleased with it - lets me go straight into our PA without lugging an amp around.
  6. I started off strictly rhythm, didn't wanna make it cry or sing! But then I started working in little two bar melodies on turn arounds. More recently I've been taking lessons and playing tunes. We're adding in chords or pairs of notes on the stronger beats.
  7. As far as rhythm techqniue, it's probably KT Tunstall for me - although she's a lot more than a rhythm guitarist. I heard "Black Horse & the Cherry Tree" right back when I started to play/sing.
  8. It's a year later, but I do like the idea of a balanced XLR connector...
  9. For me it has to be Ritchie Blackmore and his stratocasters. As far as I can tell he has at least two - one which is a pale natural wood finish, and another which is painted an ivory colour.
  10. Thanks @Dad3353
  11. Thanks for the welcome!
  12. Strangely I can reply to posts in "Introductions", "Off Topic", etc. but all the posts I've looked at in "General Discussion" are locked for me?
  13. I don't think I've posted here before - I'm a member of basschat.co.uk, but after playing bass for decades, lately I've been singing and playing mandolin and octave mandolin. I don't actually play guitar, though I have a couple of guitar-shaped objects in my collection - an acoustic guitar bodied octave mandolin, and earlier this year a local guitar builder converted a copy of a Gibson SG to mandolin for me. I'm currently working towards a Rock School grade 2 acoustic guitar exam... with a mandolin!
