    Tascam 2.0

Like a lot of guitarists, I got my first kick in the ass from Van Halen 1 and 2 albums. That was when I heard my ah-ha moment. Nobody said guitar could sound like this!!!!. Anyway, I am finding that in order to follow my pursuit of this tone, I have o go back to the equipment of that time. well, I found one of these Tascam 4 track recording units at an estate Sale. I went to the music store, bought an adapter that does the neg.dot thing and a power source and I am off. the Tascam is really quite nice to work with, and it is simplistic. but, the best thing is, the raw tone is awesome. I plugged it into my stereo. I have a high fidelity stereo with floor Ultra Linier Speakers and a EQ. so it sounds bad ass..I know that this is so old school ,but I have to be honest, The music I hear coming out from the internet is too polished. Everyone sounds the same. Plus I am a musician first, and I know what I want to hear. Hell, I run my rig with mismatched cabs cause I found a vintage Kustom 4x4 that I just had to have, and with the 4 ohms, it rocks heavy, just the way I like it. I would like to know if anyone else has had any experience with a Tascam, what did you think, any tips??
  2. I just put a new true tone jack in my Jackson Rhoads and it is like I just upgraded my pick-ups. This is the second Jackson I have installed these jacks into. They really do make a difference. I am so frigging impressed. I was going to install new EMG's in this guitar, but now I'm going to wait and see. That was my problem before, I just felt like there was something missing from my tone, then this morning I put the true tone jack in and bam, I have what I was searching for.
  3. for real or are you just messing?
  4. this is odd, but I stumbled onto something a few years ago. I was changing strings and forgot to polish the neck. I se Old English dark furniture polish. It is really good in my opinion. anyway, I decided to go ahead and do the neck. as it turned out, the oil dampened my strings just enough to rid it of what I call brassy, shrill in the high end. It produces a dampen effect on the strings that I rather like. Thought I would pass that on for no apparent reason.
  5. when our central heating kicks on, my amp generates an added hiss, not real bad but enough to notice. I never record when its on.
  6. yes, it is the Boss G1. I m using the Peavey 6505. So let me get this right. guitar>input of amp. amp fx send>into Boss G1 input. Boss G1 output into FX send. ? This would be awesome. What I would like to achieve is having the Boss G1 act like a stomp box chain .I would like to use the pre amp of my Peavey with the other effects only using the power amp. I hope this makes sense. when I run the Boss G1 directly into the amp, I get weird noises from the delay and reverb. Doing it this way, I would hope to have a more true sound, without all that weirdness.
  7. I have been wondering if I could plug my guitar into the input jack of my amp, using the preamp, the boss g1 through the FX return leaving the pre amp off and jut using the other effects in the g1. like delay and reverb. sort of using the Boss g1 as a stomp box chain. My concern is in damaging the amp. Anyone have experience doing this, did your amp blow up?
  8. Thanks! I'm still thinking. I use a 7 string and a six when I compose. I replaced the volume pot in the 7 string with a 500k. Now the two guitars don't have the same connection as before so in essence I need to bring the six string up with a more compressed tone.
  9. Hello, I have a Jackson RR32 with the stock pickups which are fine until I plug my Jackson 7string, then I feel like I want bigger sound from my RR. I bought a emg active 81 for the bridge. what I want to do is but the active 81 in the bridge, and leave the passive in the neck. My tone is Progressive Metal, with a little Dark heavy tones in the pedal tones....think Doom metal. Then In would have the passive neck pic-up for the sonics and dynamics. Can this be done. My problem is the switch-toggle, not sure how that is going to work? I have solderless active 81, but I can solder if needed.
  10. Greetings, I want to swap out my stock pic-ups on my Jackson rr32 to emg soderless in the bridge, but thinking of running the stock pic-up with the active emg. Now this may seem un-orthodox, but it can be done, and I think it would work for me. The question is, is it worth it. are emg pic-ups that much better.
  11. I just stumbled onto this guitar forum. Very glad to be here.by the way, I lived in Coventry, England when I was a teen. Anyway, i am a classical pianist, turned guitarist, thanks to the likes of Randy Rhoads, Marty Friedman, Steve Vai. I just love everything guitar!!!!!
