It looks a lot older than ‘70s and also rather worryingly it seems to not have a truss rod. After 45 years in a lift the neck may need some adjustment.

If get the Johnson thing, do you have to take it down to the crossroads at midnight?

It does have to be one or the other. Taylor, Crafter and Fender and probably others make hybrid guitars ( to go with hybrid cars) which can be heard acoustically, but not too much, sound like either acoustic or electrics when plugged in.

Small bodied (Martin 00 & 0 or equivalent) and 12 fret guitars seem to be increasingly popular with many makers producing them. If you have one show it here. This mine made by K Yiari of Japan, largely hand made with a lovely rosewood back and sides, sounds much louder than you might expect from the size.

There’s a big revival in interest in gypsy jazz with loads of bands out there playing it. The style is very percussive and that style of guitar responds well. Yours is classed as a Grande Bouche, describing the sound hole and was favoured by the rhythm players whilst the lead guitarist used the Petit Bouche. Check out John Jorgenson on YouTube who is an excellent proponent of the style which he calls Franco-American Jazz.

I’ve no experience on the HB mandolin but have had a Tanglewood and a Washburn which were both pretty good. Like most instruments you get what you pay for. As a bassist and guitarist I found the mandolin neck really tight and therefore difficult to fret. In the end I bought an Octave Mandolin (usually known as an octave mandola in the U.K.) which is the same tuning as a mandolin only an octave lower and with a lot more fretting space.

WITHDRAWN - Taylor 654ce maple body 12 string electro-acoustic
Graham50 replied to Graham50's topic in Guitars For Sale
This is still for sale or trade. Any love for 12 stringers out there? -
Good result. Did you think about putting a humidifier in the soundhole? Bob Taylor, who knows a thing or two about guitars, recommends them. Might still be worth it now your back as it will have dried out quite a bit on the trip.

WITHDRAWN - Taylor 654ce maple body 12 string electro-acoustic

Just restrung with D’Addario strings and it’s ringing like a bell. -
Completed but the questions didn’t match my position. I’ve played for years and owned dozens of guitars. My current electric is a Taylor T5z which is a hybrid.

Looks like you’ve bought yourself a tribute to the Shadows (after they abandoned Strats).

WITHDRAWN - Taylor 654ce maple body 12 string electro-acoustic
Graham50 replied to Graham50's topic in Guitars For Sale
I should have mentioned that i’m open to trades on this. A quality 6 string electro acoustic, a Taylor or Gibson would be my ideal but I’m happy to consider anything of comparable value or a combination of trade and cash. -
Really nice colour. Perfect for surf music.

I think that’s gorgeous. My son in law had a wine red single cutaway for a while, but sold it without offering it to me. I can’t justify one sos we just droll over yours.

They do look very nice. Czechs have a long history producing violins, double basses etc. I had a Spector bass made there and currently have a NS electric upright which is made there too. Great quality. I must look again at Furch guitars.

Like a lot of the friends on Basschat, I split my time being a bass player and an acoustic guitarist. That’s if a Taylor T5z counts as acoustic, it’s how I generally use it. Somehow I’ve ended up amending my name to get on here. At some point I will take some pictures of my K. Yiari New York 21 12 fret guitar which is probably the most interesting guitar I own.
