I was thinking more like a leather pickguard but who knows where this build might take me??…….
-
Awesome build!! I’m considering doing a telecaster inspired reso build bit like this one I've never owned or even played a resonator before but in you experience would having the knobs and pickup selector on the cover plate effect the sound at all? Cheers Jim

I can’t recommend IronGear pickups enough they sound awesome without breaking the bank……
-
+1 to all the above answers, IMHO I think the whole tonewood thing is nonsense I make all my guitars out of scrap/reclaim woods like pallets, scaffold boards etc and I’ve sold quite a few now with no complaints……
-
Here’s a few more of my recent builds….. The Firecaster style on the right has my first ever scratch built neck on it Sapele with Oak fretboard with Sapele dots………
-
-
The Rotta T is coming along nicely….. I grain filled the headstock and fretboard black so I’m going to do the back and the rest of the neck after I’ve shaped it…..
-
I’ve started making a couple of guitars for the UKAGB Guitar build off which is a Facebook groups version of the Great Guitar Build Off Here’s the ‘Rotta T’ which is a an Offset Tele-ish shape it’s got a Poplar pallet top and it going to have Sapele back and neck with an Oak fretboard…. This is the ‘Daga’ which is a kind of ‘Rick crossed with a Corvette crossed with a Tele crossed with a Strat which is completely made from a pallet with a Sapele neck and Oak fretboard

Thanks for the feedback everyone I'm probably going to extend the top horn a bit on #3 like @ezbass commented and I'm going to try and do #1 with a kind of chevron pattern for the top which I'll probably start doing tomorrow, #1 & 3 are probably going to have the Poplar top and #2 I haven't decided yet I might do a plain pallet top darkened down a bit but all of them will be scaffold board backs I've got a telecaster template set coming by the end of the week so hopefully that should make my life a lot easier and I've started making a jig to carve the necks which will more than likely Oak or Sapele with the opposite fretboard or I might do a Poplar fretboatd depending on how soft it feels I'll post pics when I get started.....

The 2nd one was supposed to be more based on a guitar version of a Corvette than a he who shall not be named but looking at it again it kinda does doesn't it?
-
I've been messing around on Inkscape doing some slightly different body shapes..... Opinions please!............
-
I was surprised when I saw it! Probably got enough to do 3 or 4 tops....
-
Thanks I had to give up work in September last year due to back problems that have just been getting worse so I thought I could try and do this as a little business to bring in a bit of extra cash I'm trying to steer clear from doing clones of all the usual suspects as a 1000 and 1 other people are doing them and make them slightly different! I got good feedback from my mate, he pointed out a few little issues that need to be addressed once I've sorted them they will go to another mate who wants to try them at a live gig to see how they sit in the mix so hopefully I'll be able to make a go of it......
-
I'm looking to try and start selling them so I'm just trying out different ideas so expect a lot more coming through soon.....
-
Got the top cut out just need to tidy it up a bit and glue it together Here's a mockup but it will have a black hardware, a standard telecaster bridge and control plate, all the wiring and pickups are out of a old Squier strat that i stripped for parts......
-
I'm planning a new build its going to be a kind of doublecut Nashville Tele-ish/Strat-ish 'Mongrel' type thing Its probably going to be Pine or Mahogany backed with a poplar pallet top with a mahogany neck and Poplar or Oak fretboard and Chrome hardware, it might have a pickguard I haven't decided yet? I'll post more pics when I get it started........
-
Thanks gents! I think this one is going to be put up for sale and I might make myself one, same kind of style but with P90's instead.......
-
Its all finished apart from the headstock logo as I still can't decide what to call it..... Like the firecaster its off to my mates tonight to be tested and reviewed........ I'll post his thoughts when he gets back to me.......
-
I made a slight change to the finish as I wasn't 100% happy but its all finished now I'm dropping it off at my mates tonight so he can give a test and review......
-
I've never personally used these pickups but one of my mates fitted the SD little 59's on a strat in the bridge position and they sounded good here's the version for a tele.... https://www.gak.co.uk/en/seymour-duncan-st-59-1b-little-59-for-tele/6321 Looking at the shape of your pickguard would a normal shaped/sized tele one fit after you cut it down a bit to suit? I don't know if thats an option? And it will be a lot cheaper that way aswell......
-
I'm just wiring this up now and doing the setup but I need to think of a name for it? I don't want to just call it a telecaster so I was thinking maybe 'burncaster' or similar? Any ideas gratefully received......
-
I tried doing the fake branding but TBH it looked cheap and tacky and all together rather S**t so I decided against it and went for this fimish instead, Here's a quick mockup........
