We have a small local shop but the prices are so crazy I can’t believe anyone buys anything other than the ‘starter set’ sort of stuff. Second hand stock isn’t even cleaned and often sports rusty strings. I buy strings there if I need them in a hurry but sadly that’s all. I really wish they were decent but unfortunately I can’t see it changing any time soon. For most things I go into Birmingham as there are still a few decent places there thankfully.
I have an Ultra Jazz bass and the quality is superb, a level above anything they have done before. That said, I am also on the lookout for a nice Tele and have settled on finding an Elite. They can be found second hand for round £1000-1400 and come in a nice colour range. I have played a couple and they were superb (sadly owned by friends who don’t wish to part with them). They seem to come up for sale in the usual places reasonably regularly. I think there is/ was one on here very recently as well.
Sales pitch? Looking for an angle to make them stand out. They may be decent or may not. If you can get the specs you could work it out to a degree but it doesn’t tell you everything.
Bob Mould, most underrated musician of all time in my humble opinion
Kurt Cobain, not the most complex but just the right sound at the right time
Billy Duffy, just love that sound
Ocean turquoise is the best colour, I spent a year looking for an OT Jazz bass and gave up eventually. Still looking for an OT Tele, will find one one day. This colour is a pretty close second though, really suits the Tele. GLWTS
As you can pick up decent 2nd hand amps for not a lot of cash that would be my first upgrade. As for guitars, I have one bought for £60 and one worth £2k, the expensive one sounds far better, but does it sound 33x better? No if I am honest.
Had a look at the GFS ones on YouTube and they sound good, can’t find a U.K. supplier though sadly. Did you import yours or get them from axesrus or somewhere else?
I have a Boss DS1 which I love. I also have an EHX hot wax which is a twin channel distortion pedal, each channel can be used on its own or they can be combined for a heavier sound. Soul food completes the lineup for a gentler OD sound.
