  1. Thought this could be a good place to inspire each other with what we're working on at the moment. I've been revisiting this Julian lage arrangement of an ornette Coleman song. This got me back in to playing guitar again back on April. The stretches were just too much. Since I got a 24" scale it's much more manageable.

  2. Having learnt Zeppelin’s The Rain Song and come up with an arrangement that works as a shorter solo piece, I thought I’d learn this as the tuning sounds the same (it isn’t ).

  3. Heh. I've actually fancied one for years..... but not the regular kind. One of those Brandoni 12-stringers, which is basically like playing a 12 string guitar with a capo on the 12th fret. Close enough to the sound for me, without a whole different chordal structure. Cheating, I know, but...

  4. I have just learnt Paganini's Moto Perpetuo I know it all just need to bring it up to the right speed. I'm also working on For Elise, some of the lower notes in the bass clef are not available on guitar so I'll have to tweak it a bit.

  5. I've been working on Sex on Fire, Hey Joe and Paranoid as I'm hoping to do the Rockschool grades sometime soon. I've also been having a go at Cigarettes & Alcohol and last week started on She Sells Sanctuary

  7. No problems. Yea, veneers are usually like 0.5mm thick usually so minimal sanding! With spirit you have to work fast. A good tip is us a different tag for each colour and you can use them to help blend into the other colour. I’m sure there are loads of videos on dye bursts on YouTube. Thank you! That’s what I started with, now I’m on my 10th scratch build. I’m on Instagram as Dolan Custom Guitars if you fancy checking out some of my builds.

  8. Thanks for the reply. Didnt know about raising the grain, had to google that. I'll avoid warerbased go alcohol then as im going to be working on a maple veneer, might be risky doing too much sanding i imagine the veneer will be quite thin. Beautiful piece of work btw, scratch building is way beyond my skills and my tool box im afraid. Fascinating seeing how these guitars are created. Im sure just putting together a tele will be more than enough challenge for me, i plan to pick up the components as i go along. Thanks.

  9. I’ve used Rothko and frost dartfords dyes before and they look good. Here’s a body I did with there walnut dye. Generally if you want to blend together use the same type but if you want to do a sanded back dark colour to accent the grain use a contrasting type. Water based contrast and spirit over the top. It will prevent it reactivating the dye underneath. Water based dye will raise the grain, so best to use that if you plan to sand back to accent grain. Spirit don’t as much but fry quicker so blending can be harder. Best way is to get some and do some tests on the same wood if you can.

  10. I returned to the shop where I tried the Yammy and am on my way home with a new guitar, but not that one or that make. Look out for a NGD.

  11. Not made loads of progress as waiting on some bits to bolt the neck to the body. But here is where the pickup and controls will be going.
