  1. I've always worked on the principle that in E standard tuning you string an LP/SG with 10s and Teles/Strats (or similar scale) with 9s. Until last night, my Fender Showmaster superstrat was tuned to D standard and strung with 10.5s (D'addario EXL110+) to give it the same string tension as 9s at E standard but having recently decided to use a different guitar as my default D standard guitar, I decided to re-string and re-tune my Showmaster to E standard but having had 9s on there before and not liking them (too fizzy) I thought I'd try 10s this time instead. So having re-strung, re-tuned and re-setup I gave it a go, and was really surprised by the results - despite the increased tension, the strings didn't feel that much stiffer to be honest and the fizzyness was also gone, so all's good! What do other people put on their Strats when tuned to E standard?

  3. Does it stay in tune? Joking aside, for small wobbles, it's fine. Dump it and reap the discordant whirlwind. No stress on the top really, I guess it's mostly a lateral force. They've fitted Bigsbys to hollow body Gretsches since they came out, no issues there (other than the usual tuning malarkey).

  4. Thanks both! I'm planning on re-stringing today and I have an old toothbrush for just such emergencies, so the stars are aligning. I'll start with toothpaste, great suggestion @Dad3353 and I can't see it being harmful! Plus it'll be minty fresh, can't complain! I hadn't even thought about the finish being poly @ezbass, but you're probably right! Once she's had a clean and some new strings I'll get a picture or 20 up!

  5. The time to clean these would be whilst the strings are removed, of course. I wouldn't use a cotton bud, but rather a toothbrush (no, an old one, you fool, not the one you use every day..! Do try to keep up..! ). Mask away if you want, but a brisk brushing should remove most of the dust and surface dulling. A tiny spot of chrome cleaner, Brasso or similar might help, or even... Toothpaste..! Yes, it's a light abrasive, and won't damage anything. The headstock may smell of mint afterwards, but is that a bad thing..? A rub over with a lint-free cloth at the end and you're done..! Hope this helps.

  6. Nice 339 (where's the rest of it? ), I really like the tuning keys on these and wish the Casino came with them. I can't see anything wrong with your plan and given Epis are poly coated, I'm wondering if you need to mask off (won't hurt of course).

  7. I really like the 339’s proportions and the split coil facility is great (why Gibson don’t do this is just odd). I nearly bought one myself but went for the Casino Coupé instead, as I preferred the P90s. BTW - pics or it didn’t happen

  9. You'll give everyone who donates $3 a Squier Classic Vibe and a Vox Pathfinder? Everyone here witnessed this, it's legally binding! When can I expect my Squier CV?
