  1. As we are acquiring new members, some of whom are beginners, I wondered if it might not be a good idea to have a library of videos aimed at those folk staring out. Therefore, I thought I’d start the ball rolling with a couple from Rick Beato. You may not like his style (I run hot and cold with his channel) but there might be something useful in these two videos. I always think that you should take what you need/works for you from these type of things, as sometimes one can spend a lot of time trying to nail one of the ‘important’ techniques described when it might not apply to your playing. Anyway, on with the show... And, as a bonus, one from Rhett Shull...

  2. Thanks, yes I was thinking to start on a classic guitar. I was set to buy a 1/2 size Yamaha but no leftie ones! I did look at this list too but they are all acoustic/electric. She does really want to learn the sax and we have tried lessons on Zoom but it was too hard in virtual lessons. She started recorder on Zoom as it is simpler but isn't enjoying it as much. In October we go to join her dad abroad and she will have to wear a face mask for face to face lessons, so that pretty much puts an end to learning a wind instrument at the moment, hence suggesting she tries a string instrument for now. I'm not sure if she will play left handed but she is very strongly left handed in most things so I suspect she will be. She's had a toy ukulele since she was 3 and always plays with it left handed, she naturally picks it up that way (we are all right handed so she is not copying). The problem is once we get abroad it is going to be very hard to obtain a musical instrument other than one sold in a big chain store.

  3. I have a traditional one-pickup job P-Bass, albeit a 5er. It's the bass that I use in the band and when it's home it's my go to. As it lives in the rehearsal room I've got my first 5er at home, an Aria Pro II P-J Bass with EMGs. They sound totally different as you would expect. I've also got a build in planning stages for use in the band as an alternative to the P. There are a few songs where I want something different sounding. Guitar wise, I'm not sure whether I mentioned them or not, a superstrat HSH, Floyd rose, pointy headstock and a Squier Affinity Tele. Both completely different animals.
